Creative Teamwork | Commercial Photography | Paso Robles, CA

birch fabrics organic double gauze pajamas and pillows

I have consistently found that being surrounded by a talented creative team is absolutely essential to a successful commercial photoshoot, and never was this more apparent than my commercial photoshoot for Birch Fabrics to promote their new line of softer than soft Organic Double Gauze.

This shoot was all about teamwork to me.  Every single person in the Birch Fabrics office contributed to this shoot.  Our incredibly talented and beautiful creative director Andrea did an amazing job designing the set and coordinating every last detail including tracking down the beautiful cotton garland at a local Paso Robles antique store.  Our carpenter Tyson built the headboard from scratch, that Andrea then upholstered.  Our multi-talented in-house fabric designer/accounts manager/hair stylist/makeup artist Arleen was on set to help with wardrobe and to make sure we got the shots we needed for our marketing campaign.  Our trusty seamstress Ashley whipped up the pajamas, and our co-worker Melissa from our sister store Fabricworm sewed the pillow cases for us.  Then there is AjeuneĆ©, our office assistant/fashion model.  I think she killed it, don't you?

I am so proud of our entire creative team for how this shoot turned out!  The inspirational vision and talent that surrounds me is overwhelming, and it really shines through in the work they produce!  The spirit of photography to me is simply capturing the beauty all around you, so to have the pleasure of such amazing talents creating all kinds of beauty around me - specifically for me to photograph - makes me one extremely grateful photographer!

Sam + Melissa | Engagement Photography | Paso Robles, CA

The story of Sam + Melissa began in a church, and their next chapter will be ushered in with church bells!  This beautiful couple traveled three hours up the coast from Ventura for their engagement photography session because they wanted to tell the story of their engagement with the golden rolling hills of Paso Robles, CA as the setting.  They had seen a photograph I had featured on my Instagram account of the beautiful hills near my home and they asked me to take them there for their couples portraits.  The best photographs we take are the ones that tell our story the way we want to tell it, and sometimes the setting we choose is able to convey the emotions we long to express, when words just won't do the job.  This is the beauty and joy of the life of a storyteller and photographer, and the reason I truly love telling stories through engagement photography in Paso Robles, CA.

Your Story

You are the leading character in the most poetic, emotionally compelling, and artistically inspiring story ever told.  Imagine being able to capture the pages of your story and hang them on the walls of your home, or reliving each chapter of your story by flipping through the storybook on your coffee table.  There are far too many pages and chapters in your story to be able to count, but there are certain chapters - certain moments that deserve to be told and remembered forever.  you've got a brilliant story to tell.  How would you like to tell it?

“Stories have to be told or they die, and when they die, we can't remember who we are or why we're here.”
- Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees:

I can't wait to hear your story!

Dolly + Lilly | Commercial Fashion | Paso Robles, CA

The story of Birch Fabrics and Fabricworm.com is a true underdog story, and it all started in a small garage in Paso Robles, CA, where a big vision was emerging.  In a few short years, Birch Fabrics and Fabricworm are playing with the big boys of the modern fabric industry, and they have a secret weapon: 100% organic cotton!  They've found a real niche in the market with their product, and the fact that they put so much weight on producing excellent apparel photography to enhance their online presence and spur their marketing campaigns doesn't hurt either : )

My story with Birch Fabrics began at a time when I happened to be at a crossroads, and Birch Fabrics happened to be growing rapidly.  The fabric manufacturer (a local business in my town) was looking for a commercial fashion photographer who could do more than just snap product photos.  They wanted to tell stories with their fabric, and visually inspire their quilting and garment-making fans across the globe.  I have learned much from Birch Fabrics, and I truly enjoy telling stories inspired by commercial fashion.

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Dolly and Lilly for Birch Fabrics' Double Gauze collection.  These two were adorable together and it was so fun to photograph a real mommy/daughter combo for this commercial fashion photoshoot!  It took a few chocolates to get Lilly in a photogenic mood, but she caught on quickly and we got some really cute photographs and had a real swell time to boot!

Houston, TX

Traveling is one of my favorite times to take photographs.  There is so much to see and so many creative ways to capture the new scenery.  This past week I was a busy man, working at Quilt Market in Houston, but there were moments to and from the convention center, in my hotel room, or on the airplane when I was able to snap shots freely, and I got some really great shots!

International Quilt Market Fall 2015

I was very excited to be invited by the Birch Fabrics and Fabricworm.com team to help out at International Quilt Market Fall 2015 in Houston, TX.  My main job was to photograph fabric we bought for both reference and commercial use, but I also got to help build and take down the booth, show and sell Birch Fabrics, and take photos of the Birch Team.  It was a lot of fun, and an honor to be part of the team!
